As Miss Indian USA, Laura lived in Washington, DC and interned at the AIHF.  Appearance highlights include attending numerous American Indian youth conferences and cultural events throughout the country, serving on the selection committee for 1992 American Indian Student Eagle Awards.  She was the first MIUSA to travel internationally appearing at the opening ceremonies of 1992 World's Fair in Barcelona, Spain.

She was the Class Salutatorian of Red Rock High School, earning her admission to the University of Central Oklahoma (UOC), where she majored in Elementary Education.  While at UCO, she was awarded Outstanding American Indian Student of 1991, served as President of the First American Student Association and became an Earth Ambassador for United National Indian Tribal Youth (UNITY).
